Steve Pougnet is an effective leader who has a record of results and accomplishment as Palm Springs Mayor Pro-Tem and as a member of the City Council:
- Instrumental in bringing the Hard Rock Hotel to Palm Springs.
- A major proponent of the Port Lawrence mixed use project to downtown Palm Springs.
- A principal architect of the development of the award-winning Downtown Design guidelines.
- Supported honoring actor and long-time Palm Springs resident Kirk Douglas with the naming of Kirk Douglas Way at the airport.
- Voted to hire a new City Attorney that has saved the taxpayers of Palm Springs thousands of dollars.
- Voted to establish the Office of Neighborhood Involvement in the City, which has created stronger neighborhoods within our City.
- Pushed the establishment of the vacant building ordinance, which fines property owners for blighted properties.
- A leader in the creation of the Resource Conservation Commission, which will help the City, save energy, waste and water.
- Co-sponsored Senior Forum with Riverside County Advisory Council on Aging which identified the problems and challenges facing Palm Springs seniors.
- Co-Chairman of Citizens Task Force for Mountain and Foothill Preservation and Planning which bridged divides between developers and preservationists on the Chino Cone. This led to the passing of the Chino Cone ordinance.
